Driverless cars: They sound like a cross between our wildest fantasy and a science fiction, but alas, they are reality – and they're quickly coming to our streets. Are they truly the future of driving? Only time will tell, but early indications point to driverless vehicles being the true wave of the future. What Are Self-Driving Cars? The name "self-driving vehicle" seems pretty obvious, but in reality, there are several levels of driverless vehicle. A Level 0 car has no automation and is completely human-controlled, while a Level 5 ride is fully automated with no human intervention. Automation varies across the other four levels, with some levels already represented in today's vehicles. more A New Generation of Non-Drivers The millennial generation as a whole lacks an interest in driving, unlike previous generations, which is why ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft have achieved so much success. Because they are not interested in driving, millennials will be an ideal market for driverless vehicles. Such vehicles offer owners the freedom on car ownership in that they can use the vehicle when and how they like without the worry of driving it. Those already investing in the technology anticipate widespread use of driverless vehicles by 2021, barring any governmental or technological roadblocks. However, automotive insiders think the timeline will be much longer, perhaps toward the middle of the century, before most of us are cruising along in driverless cars. Humans have already set an impressive precedent in how safely they operate vehicles that it will take some time before a machine can reach that standard. Human-specific abilities, such as ethical decision making, also pose a challenge that machines have difficulty duplicating. Toyota has already made a sizable investment in the future of driving. Some estimates date the original log cabin structure to as far back as 1683, but the house continued to be expanded and improved over another 130 years. Today, it's considered one of the nation's most well-preserved examples of an early American home. From 1803 to 1838, the Pont Reading House was the home of Joshua Humphreys, a marine architect who designed several well-known ships for the early U.S. Navy, including ships used in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. It's designed for kids under age 10 with opportunities for unstructured and creative play. With more than 16,000 square feet of space, you'll find sloping hills, areas of wooded terrain, and plenty of wide open fields for playing and running. Playgrounds and equipment are open to children for active and stimulating play. It's free to enter this spot and open to all children who fit within the age guidelines. On Tuesday-Friday it's open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday it's open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. It's closed Mondays and weekdays between October and April. Ardmore Farmer's Market Held at Suburban Square, the Ardmore Farmer's Market is a top attraction for those who live in the area as well as visitors coming from out of town. On weekdays you can shop from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Vendors come from around the state to bring fresh flowers, produce, cheese, meats, and tasty treats. If you live in the area, walk through the open-air market during your lunch break to pick up a fresh and delicious meal. Visitors will love sampling local favorites like seared sliced tuna, rambutan (a tropical fruit from Indonesia and Southeast Asia), and spicy freshly grown peppers. Ardmore Music Hall This live music venue attracts entertainers from a variety of genres. Its close proximity to Philadelphia makes it easy for groups and artists to get in and out of the city, but the intimate atmosphere gives a unique feel. Some of the past performers include Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Ramones. The box office is open Tuesday-Friday from noon to 5 p.m. All shows are for guests age 21 and over, although minors can attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Toyota's Future Forward program is a partnership between the all-new Prius and The Creators Project, an arts and culture platform created by Vice. The program employs a variety of art forms to explore some of today's most important issues. Future Forward's event series, installations, videos, and editorial pieces welcome young drivers and art aficionados across the nation. Now in its fourth generation, the newly redesigned Prius boasts a new look and the latest version of all the features that this hybrid vehicle has come to be known for. The 2016 Prius' environmental consciousness and fuel economy, estimated at 54 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the highway, are just some of the centerpieces of the Future Forward series. more Where Did the Event Series Happen? Toyota's Future Forward program took place throughout June. On June 4, the series kicked off with a major event at New York's Industria Superstudio. Future Forward headed west to Chicago on June 18, where it set up shop at the Revel Space in buzzing Fulton Market. The event series finally landed in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 25. On the West Coast, the Future Forward movement made an appearance at NeueHouse Hollywood, where auto enthusiasts, creatives, and art aficionados gathered together for a digital program. Which Artists Participated in the Program? Altogether, the Future Forward program included three vastly different artists and studios. Artists Noemi Schipfer and Takami Nakamoto, better known as Nonotak, contributed their illustration and musical talents. Artist Doris Sung explored architectural projects, and studio VT Pro Design added some design to the mix. What Artwork Did the Future Forward Series Produce? Each artist and studio produced unique artwork and design for the Future Forward series. Doris Sung created a kinetic chandelier titled "Drift," which altered shape and size according to the temperature. Constructed from over 1,000 pieces of heat-reactive metal pieces, this large hanging sculpture continually reflected its environment. VT Pro Design used its design skills to develop a kinetic wall installation called "Reach," which invited visitors to interact with nature and technology. Nonotak produced a stunning infinity room titled "Hoshi," which explored immersive light and sound. Once inside the installation, participants experienced a roller coaster of spatial and musical effects. With a numerous creative projects and a series of events across the nation, Toyota's Future Forward movement made waves in the automotive and artistic worlds. By forging a partnership between the all-new Prius and The Creators Project, the Future Forward program supports artists' creative efforts and encourages drivers to engage with the hybrid vehicle in a whole new way. The Right Car The first step in using your car as a mobile work station is, of course, to have a car. Although any car can be remodeled into a powerhouse for office workers on the go, certain features in a car give you a leg up to start with. For starters, some modern cars have Wi-Fi hotspots, which will save you the trouble of finding another mobile device to run your internet devices through. However, most of these features are high-end option packages found on late model cars, and that may be prohibitively expensive. Also, don't assume that just because a car has some bells and whistles, it can fill all your mobile office needs. Customizing your vehicle is the best way to ensure that the equipment in the car is tuned to the needs of your specific business endeavors rather than more general pursuits. The Right Gear Internet Once you have the car, the first thing you'll need to make it a lean, mean business machine is some sort of access to the internet. As mentioned above, some newer cars have Wi-Fi service built in, but those vehicles are still rare and expensive for the most part. Instead, you can hook up a quality cell phone as a mobile hotspot for what is generally a much smaller price. Since using the Wi-Fi drains the batteries, be sure to get a power adapter for your car as well, letting you charge your phone on the go. As you'll likely be working across a variety of devices, you'll need the ability to keep the juice flowing to all of them. That means outlets that feed off your car's energy supply through the surprisingly versatile cigarette lighter. Since these outlets feed off of the battery supply of the car, however, it is good not to overuse the outlets. You can use them a bit more on the go, when the alternator is helping maintain the battery charge level. At the same time, it is probably a good idea to bring along a spare car battery and a charger for it. Workspace Finally, you'll want a comfortable workspace. Backseats often work better than front for those purposes, lacking as they do the dash and controls. Consider picking up a lap desk to help steady your laptop, helping reduce errors and strain on your back. Working on the go is a reality in the modern marketplace. Stay Energized With Trail Mix Trail mix is the perfect road snack for when you need something a little more filling, and it's quick and easy to prepare before a long drive. Mix together your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruits and you'll have a healthful, energy-rich snack to keep you satiated and alert on the road. If you didn't get a chance to prepare snacks ahead of time, you can also buy trail mix at most gas stations as a more healthful snack option than the typical candy bars and bags of chips. Make Better Fast Food Choices Sometimes snacking just isn't cutting it, and you need to stop for a full meal. Dining options along the highway can be scarce, but you can find more healthful options at the standard roadside fast food restaurants. Have you heard the news? The best-selling car for the past 14 years is on its way to set yet another trend, this time one that comes to us as no surprise. Cars.com, in their American-Made Index, rates vehicles built and brought into the U.S based on several factors to ultimately determine those whose are the most American-made. Can you guess which car is on this list? Here's a hint. If you guessed Camry, you are correct! The Camry was rated as the most American-made vehicle. This is a position the Camry has held for the second straight year, and the sixth time overall it was included on the list. The factors used to determine those results include the percentage of parts considered domestic under federal regulations, whether the car is assembled in the U.S. and also includes U.S. sales. If a model is determined to have a parts content rating below 75 percent, they are disqualified. This also includes models built exclusively outside the U.S. or models that are on their way to being discontinued without any kind of U.S. built successor. All these factors gave way to the eventual rating of the Camry - an astounding 75 percent American. As a bonus, the Sienna is yet another vehicle included on the list and it ranked third overall.
