Among these is the Pont Reading House, an early American home that exists today in the same form as it did in 1813. Some estimates date the original log cabin structure to as far back as 1683, but the house continued to be expanded and improved over another 130 years. Today, it's considered one of the nation's most well-preserved examples of an early American home. From 1803 to 1838, the Pont Reading House was the home of Joshua Humphreys, a marine architect who designed several well-known ships for the early U.S. Navy, including ships used in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
