J.D. Power has ranked the Toyota Prius and Toyota Tacoma as the most dependable models in their respective segments, according to its annual “Vehicle Dependability Study.”
The study, which tallies the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles, records data from drivers in their third year of ownership. Scores are based on the following criteria:
- Reports range across 177 specific problems
- Problems vary between 8 major vehicle categories
- Results are tracked over past 12 months of ownership
While the average score for the industry was 142 this year, the Prius and Tacoma turned in an impressive 98 and 114 respectively. These results only solidify Toyota’s position as king of the compact car and midsize pickup truck classes.
