The study surveyed vehicles from 1981 to 2002, attempting to get a wide range of vehicles. It looked at models from American and foreign makes. After looking at over 650,000 cars, truck, and SUVs, the study had some surprising results. Examining the List The first thing to note is that Toyota dominates the list, providing 9 different vehicles in the top 15. Even more interesting, the top 5 spots all went to Toyota, with the Toyota Highlander leading the way at number 1. The Highlander is followed by the Toyota Sienna, Toyota Tundra, Toyota Prius, and RAV4, with the Sequoia, Tacoma, Avalon, and Camry all making appearances on the list. This information is especially significant because it shows a mix of vehicle types, including sedans, SUVs, trucks and even a hybrid. It’s clear that Toyota doesn’t just specialize in one department, as they have dependable models of every style. What Does It Mean? The list focuses on cars that owners have kept for at least 15 years. These Toyota models were all kept for 15 years by at least 11.5% of drivers, with over 18% of Highlanders still on the road after that time period. The average vehicle, according to the study, was only kept by 6.8% of owners. This means that these Toyotas are about twice as likely to remain on the road after 15 years as the average vehicle.
