Hybrids: Friendly to Mother Nature, Saving You Money

No decision makes a bigger impact on the environment than the type of car you drive.  “Hybrid” cars offer an efficient and affordable way to make a commitment to Mother Nature. Hybrids get their name from a double power source: a small, fuel-efficient gas engine that’s assisted by an electric motor when accelerating.  The motor is powered by batteries that automatically recharge while you drive. After years of development, hybrids have become a practical choice for consumers. Besides their smaller, cleaner engines, hybrids also boast other efficient features: Regenerative Braking. The hybrid’s electric motor can also slow the car. In this mode, the motor charges the batteries while the car is slowing down. Periodic Engine Shutoff. When stopped in traffic, a hybrid’s engine shuts off. It instantly re-starts when put into gear, without interrupting your momentum. Advanced Aerodynamics, Low-Rolling Resistance (LLR), Tires & Lightweight Construction. These features reduce drag, putting less strain on your engine. Hybrids are available with all the features you expect in a new car, and their excellent gas mileage (often 40-50 mpg) makes them a cost-effective, conscientious choice. Ask your dealer to help you find a hybrid that’s right for you.

Make the Most of Your Car: Read the Manual

You know about oil changes, you know about rotating tires ... but you have you forgotten the first, most basic car maintenance step? Reading the manual! Most car manuals are stowed in the glove box, and you should re-familiarize yourself with it a few times a year. With recent changes in technology your car may have options you don’t know about, or you may learn a way of operating it more efficiently. For example, since the advent of the airbag many manuals suggest that you drive with your hands at “4” and “8” instead of the old “10” and “2”. Read the manual to make the most of your car. If it’s missing, ask your dealer for a replacement.

Your Windshield: Fix Those Cracks!

Your windshield is a marvel of strength. Whether you know it or not, stones and debris hit it every time you drive—and usually nothing happens. But you can’t get lucky every day, and occasionally a stone will make a star-like crack in the glass. It might not look like much, but it’s a serious problem. The crack can grow across your entire windshield. Left unattended, even the tiniest nick can invisibly weaken the windshield structure, which puts you in danger during a crash. Crack repair kits can be purchased at any auto parts store, but play it safe and visit your dealer, who’ll confirm the extent of the damage and fix it correctly. Should you need a new windshield, your dealer will replace it to factory standard, allowing you to hit the road with confidence.
