When will these AWD models be released?
The Toyota Avalon AWD will be released with the 2021 model year. The Toyota Camry AWD will be released with the 2020 model year.
What does AWD really mean?
Essentially, all-wheel drive means increased traction. AWD means that the vehicle’s powertrain can send power to all of its wheels, unlike front-wheel or rear-wheel drive. While 4WD is often optimized specifically for extreme off-road conditions, AWD is optimized for more normal conditions, as well as moderate off-road conditions. For example, it helps provide extra traction when a road is wet or if you’re driving through mud, sand, or gravel. Unless you go off-roading frequently, AWD will most often be sufficient for your needs.
