You start your car . . . and the Check Engine light comes on. Few things are capable of inducing so much dread. Visions of costly breakdowns dance through your head. Relax! Your vehicle’s monitoring systems are sensitive to the tiniest variable. A quick call to your dealer mechanic could reveal the culprit as nothing but a loose gas cap, or simple maintenance that’s been overlooked for a pre-programmed amount of time. (Note that slow or fast blinking Check Engine lights should be evaluated immediately; these can indicate a loose oil cap, which is a serious problem.)

Call your dealer when that Check Engine light comes on, and consult your owners’ manual. It just might ease your mind.
